Description

Name: Roxanne Taylor during the day, Shadow during the night
Age: 20 in Batman: Under the Red Hood, Same age as Jason in Batman: Arkham Series.
Universe/World: Batman: Under the Red Hood and Batman: Arkham Series
Strengths: Able to dual-wield swords with ease, great shot with a gun, black belt, strong sense of justice, determined to carry out her goals, loyal to her friends, knows how to play the part of the sweet and innocent children's karate teacher by day
Weaknesses: Tends to hold grudges, can be self-absorbed and insensitive, also dwells on the past, can let her anger get the better of her, can get obsessive at times, shows slightly sociopathic behavior (such as enjoying herself when torturing The Joker)
Personality: When Roxanne was a kid, she was optimistic and sweet, yet could also get defensive and show a slight cynical side.  As an adult, she's cynical but also very strong with a desire for vengeance, yet still shows loyalty and is very protective of the people she cares about.  During the day, she's a sweet children's karate teacher with an active social life who wouldn't hurt a fly and has a weakness for plushies.  She also has low self-esteem and, for awhile, found it hard to believe that someone like Jason could be interested in someone like her.
Friends/Family: Roxanne has a close relationship with her mother to the point of being her mother's living emotional crutch.  She's also allied with Batman, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Oracle, despite having disagreements with them.  Roxanne's also on good terms with Alfred.  Her father moved to Metropolis and she doesn't really communicated with him.  Roxanne's half-sister is Tanya who was her alpha-bitch school bully growing up.  Her half-brother is Ken who likes to mooch on her when he can.  Roxanne tends to avoid contact with them when she can.  She's also a friend and ally of The Huntress and has been known to team up with Catwoman.  Her greatest ally is the Red Hood.
Enemies: When Roxanne was a kid, her greatest enemy was Tanya but, as an adult, her enemies are The Joker, Hugo Strange, Harley Quinn, Arkham Knight and the Scarecrow with The Joker being her most hated.
Love Interest: Roxanne was involved with Jason Todd when she was a kid and went back to him when he came back as an adult.  During that time, Roxanne tended to become involved with men that would remind her of Jason in even the smallest way.
Pets: None.
Favorite Color: Her secret identity adores pink while her vigilante self prefers black.
Hobby: Roxanne makes it known that collecting plushies is her hobby so no one suspects that she's Shadow.
Fun Fact: I imagine Shadow being voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar in both universes.
Short background story: When Roxanne was a kid, she admired Batman and wanted to be a cop so she could help him fight crime through the law.  It wasn't until she dated Jason that she had the chance to meet Batman only for him to be cold to her, believing that Jason was wrong to get her involved in this, while Alfred continued being nice to her.  Roxanne's very proud of Jason and all the good deeds he does in his Robin persona, even if she didn't want any public connection to Robin due to not seeing Lois Lane as a role-model.  Sometimes Roxanne could be resentful of Robin, feeling that he's the third wheel in her relationship with Jason.  She also didn't like Jason going off into danger while she's at home wondering if he'll come back to her in one piece.  Despite their problems, she was always there when Jason needed her and he would help her see that she's capable of far more than she thinks she is.  When Jason died, Roxanne fell into a serious depression while being angry at Bruce for "letting Jason die."  Roxanne grew up and joined the GCPD, still feeling remorseful about Jason's death while trying to put her life back together.  Unfortunately, The Joker undid all her efforts by not only telling her that he killed Jason, but also explaining to her, in gruesome detail, how he died, enraging Roxanne to the point where she threatened him and tried to stab him with a knife.  Little by little, Roxanne found herself losing faith in the justice system when criminals would repeatedly escape, threaten Gotham and Batman would bring them back.  She had a special hatred for The Joker, who felt that there was no justice in The Joker being alive while Jason was dead.  Feeling that Batman wasn't being the protector Gotham needed, Roxanne got to work forming her own double life and dispensing ruthless justice while breaking Batman's one rule.  Shadow's main target for her brand of justice is The Joker.  As for the scene above, Shadow purposely got herself thrown in Arkham City so she can search for The Joker and confirm the rumors that he was dying.

This is my entry for :icondoll-makers-domain:'s November Contest.  I went with Roxanne because I'm back to being in a Batman mood.
