Even though the person's account was deactivated and, hopefully, banned, I'm still upset that he thought it was okay to steal my art like that.  Even if I did make it in a game, it was still a huge disservice to the people who made the game in the first place.  Many people who create these games want them to be used and they want people to give it life.  Here's one such example of what you can do with a dollmaker.

Theresa ~ for suburbantimewaster by funnies50

This is Snow Queen Scene Maker and, originally, it's supposed to be a simple background with snow.  :iconfunnies50: went to all the trouble of using strands of hair to make a balcony, using icicles to make a bird and even decorated it with flowers and used different colored strands to give the illusion that my character, Theresa, was inside a building.  Yes, drawers and the people who create dollmaker games are the architects of the art world, but dollmakers are the interior decorators.

Since I don't make dollmaker games, I can't truly speak for those that do.  However, :iconsailorxv3: does make dollmaker games and even created the Sailor X Generator that I plan on trying out and she has a few words to say about deviantart's policy towards dollmaker creations.

I agree totally!  Doll makers are art, they're just a different kind of art.  It helps those of us who can't draw but still want to part of this site.  They need to stop treating us like second class citizens!  by J-Works Many people love dolls and most of them work very hard to get them just right not to mention how many people take the time to come with information about them.  How can they say it isn't art?  It's just a different kind. by stuck-in-suburbia

Just want to add one more thing. Silly really so don't mind me. The only problem I have with doll makers, are the lack of male dolls. x3

Unless you all know the best pleases besides Dolldivine

Which I love by the way.

I'm picking up that gauntlet. Once the female generator for the EMCCV is done a male one will be next. Probably with a focus on modern casual and superhero clothing to start with. :eager:

I can not wait to see that. Hopefully one day when I have the proper tools.
I too, can make a doll maker for everyone to create with. It been my dream since
I started playing the flash games Deviant art had to to offer before I found Dolldivine.

I support you and your works!

Thank you so much for that!
And... I've been holding back because I don't want to appear to be advertising or anything, but... since you mentioned it...  Even before the male generator comes along I am planning to release a wizard to help you create your own dolls for the EMCCV. So "all" you'd need to do is supply the artwork, then click your way through the wizard to generate the config file and voila! You could also use the existing base and simple supply an extension. Big plans. ^^

Anyway, rambling. It's the excitement. :happybounce:

AWESOME that sounds really cool I'd like to see some more on that idea.

Um if not to much trouble I wanted to address an issue. I just DL your game
and um, Well I don't know excattly what happened but i started to open and close
on its own then it started bugging out and opening files on my computer, along with
bringing me to a random website called pc games- nico blog. I couldn't control my mouse.
it was really weird.

I have a baddd history with viruses so I panicked and deleted the game. ^^; I felt I should
let you know.

That is extremely worrying of course, but I am absolutely sure that can't have come from my game. I write it on a Mac, then compile it for Windows on my work computer, which - since I work for a software development company - I am very sure is virus free. It's what we do! ^^ In addition to that nobody else has reported any issues and I would think something like that wouldn't go unnoticed. ^^

Aside from checking your system with a virus scanner etc, here is what I would do to make sure your system is okay:

Step one would be to confirm that we can eliminate SailorXv3 as the probably cause.

1) download the same file again and start it. No worries, if damage was done last time you won't do any more damage by trying it again. Does the same thing happen? If yes, then
2) Try another version: If you tried the full screen version try running the windowed version instead. Try the 32 bit version if you tried the 64 bit, or try the app with Java if you tried the one without.

These attempts will inform our next move.

3) If the same thing happened again in any of the above steps, I would suspect your java installation. Try reinstalling your java.

If that doesn't fix it I'm out. In any case though, which version did you download? I'll double check to be sure. I could also imagine a simple conflict somewhere, but that wouldn't explain the random navigating to a website, which is the most suspicious part... But I can't find info on that website in connection with malware either... Sounds more like someone else was using your computer by remote or something. Doubt that though. Mentioning it just in case.

Let me know how it goes. Would love to help in any way I can. ;)

Thank you for the reply I get scary nervous when things like this happen.
I used the 64 bit window version for java. I was barley playing for like 10 minutes
when it all started it was very fast and just happened and stopped just as it was happening
if that makes sense.  I never blamed you or your program I just have the WORST luck
downloading things.  If you don't mind I'd like to wait to re download it when my boyfriend
gets home, he is great with computers and I bet he can help narrow down the problem.
I'm and old maid when it comes to tech. Haha. Thank you again for the help and I will try
everything you listed when I get the chance. So far my scanner has yet to detect anything
but I will give you an update later on that when it has fully finished.

Again thank you.

Don't worry, I wasn't offended or anything. It is only plausible to at the very least consider that the program you're working with is a potential cause. ;)
Maybe it was a memory issue... SailorXv3 can be fairly heavy on the RAM. But a 64 bit Windows computer should have enough. I'd expect at least 1GB, in which case I still recommend closing all other programs. 2GB or more would be better. I have 4GB, but I also have Photoshop and many other programs open...

Just in case that helps. Make sure your scanner is up to date and can also detect trojans and not just viruses! ;)

Here are 2 things many people don't understand about doll-makers:

1.) They don't understand the time and effort the actual artists/programmers put into making the game in the first place.  Quite often, these talented people put months upon months of work into the program.  Sometimes it takes even longer if they are working with another artist and collaborating.  Sometimes the artist/programmer in question, suffers setbacks or has something happen in their life that prevents them from working on their project for some reason or other.  Quite honestly, many of these games I've seen, especially the best ones, are a labor of love.

2.) These doll-makers are actually more limited than you think.  Quite often, you find yourself missing some component in the game to make that one, fun picture.  The resourcefulness and creativity I've seen that people have done to compensate for this is incredible.  To take the drag-and-drop feature and transform the doll into something far different than the game is designed for, is a true sign of creativity and thinking outside the box.  To say that something like that is not art, is like thinking lazily and stuffing it into an unrealistic category.

I challenge anyone to go to Doll Divine's website and look at what artists such as Inanna, Pigobest, Kytheira, Starshipsally, or some of the others have done, and not call that art.

While maybe not as legitimate as "original" art, I have seen some AWESOME manipulations of Dollmaker images that take some serious skill to do. Honestly I'd consider those to be Photomanipulations, a legitimate art form. And dollmaker dolls done using drag-and-drop items (such as the above) are pretty legitimate and take quite a bit of creativity. While simply making characters using only provided items is iffy, there's no doubt that when done right Dollmakers can be just as good as any other art.

People talk about the same issue with base arts. And yet DA acknowledge those as art now.

Yeah, which kind of irks me because I've seen a great deal of creativity put into a dollmaker image that has to go into Scraps, when I've also seen base dollings that looked like the "artist" didn't even care or didn't even try to doll it properly.

Yep, doll makers a fun to use, most of the things I upload are dolls. I can draw alright but I don't think I'm very good at drawing, and it's much more fun to use doll makers. You can come up with lots of things, making characters or ideas for dress designs etc.
